Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information MindBenchmark collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not require an account to use the Service and we do not sell personal information.

Last updated: April 19, 2026

1. Who We Are

mindbenchmark.com (the “Service”) is operated by MindBenchmark and its owners, operators, and contributors (“we,” “us,” “our”). For privacy questions, contact contact@mindbenchmark.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum needed to operate and improve the Service.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics to record events such as page views, test starts, completions, resets, dwell time on results, and share/challenge interactions. These events include anonymous identifiers and approximate geographic location (derived from IP), but we do not store raw IP addresses in our systems.
  • Device and browser information. User agent, device type (mobile/desktop/tablet), screen size, language, and referrer.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 5.
  • Test results (when a data capture layer is active). Scores, test slugs, and timestamps may be transmitted to our servers and stored in aggregate to power public benchmark statistics. Results are associated with a rotating anonymous session identifier, not with your identity.

Information stored on your device

  • Best scores, most-recent results, and test history are stored in your browser via localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you share a challenge link.
  • A rotating anonymous session identifier used to deduplicate analytics events.

Information you provide directly

  • Email address, if you contact us at support@mindbenchmark.com or contact@mindbenchmark.com.
  • Any content you share publicly (e.g., challenge links) — see our Terms.

3. How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • Understand which tests are used, how well they perform, and where users drop off;
  • Compute aggregate statistics (averages, distributions, percentiles) that may be published as public benchmarks on the Service;
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and technical issues;
  • Respond to inquiries you send to our contact addresses and enforce our Terms of Service;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use the Service to profile you for behavioral advertising outside the Service.

4. How We Share Information

We share information only in these narrow cases:

  • Service providers. Google (Google Analytics 4), Vercel (hosting, edge analytics), Microsoft (IndexNow indexing), and Neon or an equivalent database provider (if and when the data capture layer is activated). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
  • Public aggregates. We may publish statistics derived from collective results (e.g., “median reaction time: 258 ms”). Public aggregates never identify an individual.
  • Challenge links. When you share a challenge link, the score you chose to share is encoded in the URL and visible to anyone who opens the link.
  • Legal compliance. We may disclose information to comply with law, a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MindBenchmark, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. In a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred. We will notify users of any change in ownership or use of information.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our third-party providers use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Measure traffic and understand how the Service is used (Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics);
  • Maintain session continuity (session identifier);
  • Remember your best scores and last-used settings (localStorage).

Most browsers let you control cookies through settings. Blocking cookies may impair certain features (e.g., best-score persistence). We honor the GPC and Do Not Track signals by refraining from third-party analytics where technically feasible.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including the EU/UK under GDPR, California under the CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws in other regions), you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Port your personal information to another service;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not do this);
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because we operate without accounts and collect only pseudonymous analytics, our ability to locate data tied to a specific individual may be limited. To exercise rights, email contact@mindbenchmark.com with enough detail (e.g., approximate dates, browser) for us to act on the request. You can delete all data stored on your device by clearing your browser’s site data for mindbenchmark.com.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, email contact@mindbenchmark.com and we will delete it.

8. Data Retention

Analytics events are retained for up to 26 months (Google Analytics default), after which they are deleted or anonymized. localStorage data persists on your device until you clear it. Aggregate statistics derived from data (medians, distributions) may be retained indefinitely, as they cannot be traced back to an individual.

9. International Data Transfers

The Service is hosted in the United States and information may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we rely on approved transfer mechanisms (including Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect personal information transferred out of the EU/UK.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information (TLS in transit, limited access, scoped credentials). No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be communicated via the Service.
