Peripheral Vision Test

Test how well you detect movement and targets at the edges of your visual field. Keep your eyes on the center crosshair and click each target as fast as you can.

Best experienced on a larger screen for accurate peripheral vision measurement.

A green target will appear at the edges of the area below. Click it as fast as you can while keeping your eyes on the center.

How It Works

  1. Click Start to begin the test.
  2. Keep your eyes fixed on the central crosshair at all times.
  3. A green target appears somewhere in your peripheral vision.
  4. Click or tap the target as quickly as you can without moving your eyes from center.
  5. After 20 trials, see your accuracy and average reaction time.

The Science Behind Peripheral Vision

Peripheral vision relies heavily on rod cells in your retina, which are more sensitive to movement and light changes but provide lower spatial resolution than the cone cells concentrated in your fovea (central vision). Your peripheral visual field spans roughly 180 degrees horizontally and 120 degrees vertically, providing critical awareness of your surroundings. Strong peripheral vision is essential for driving, team sports, self-defense awareness, and everyday spatial navigation.

Tips for Improvement

  • Keep your eyes locked on the crosshair — resist the urge to look toward the target.
  • Use a larger screen if possible — a wider field tests peripheral vision more accurately.
  • Minimize distractions and test in a well-lit environment.
  • Practice sports or activities that challenge peripheral awareness, like martial arts or driving simulators.
  • Relax your gaze — a soft focus on center helps you detect peripheral stimuli faster.
